PRESS RELEASE: MINISTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS CUTS SOD FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF 30 CICS

The Minister for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), will be cutting sod for the construction of thirty (30) Ultra-modern Community ICT Centres (CIC). The event will take place at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020.
The CICs, when completed, will serve the multipurpose objective of driving ICT education for students and the community members. It will serve as a resource centre for people living within these areas, where they can easily access internet services
The Community ICT Centre doubles as a hybrid profit-making and a non-profit community resource centre intended to provide business services and community-tailored development information to the communities within which they are located. The centres also provide online access to ministries, departments & agencies, other public and private organisations as well as educational institutions.
In addition to the CIC to be built in Asuom, twenty-nine (29) other CICs will be constructed in other districts within the country.
The 30 centres will augment the existing 241 centres located in other districts within the country.
The project, when completed, will be equipped and managed by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
GIFEC is an agency under the Ministry of Communications, mandated to facilitate the provision of universal access to all persons through the use of affordable ICTs for socio-economic development.
