Over 500 Girls in the Oti Region trained in ICT

News & Media

A total of 584 female school children drawn from various basic and junior high schools across the Oti region have benefited from a two-week training in Information and Communication Technology as well as career mentorship in the IT industry.

The training organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Communication, took place in districts including Nkwanta South, Nkwanta North, Kedjebi/Jasikan, Biakoye, Krachi East, Krachi Ntsumuru, and Krachi West, with the participants receiving training in Coding, Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Continuous Integration (CI) and Basic Computer Literacy.

At a ceremony held in Nkwanta on Monday, September 14, to climax the National Girls in ICT Day, the Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, noted that the sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda cannot be achieved if girls and women are left out of IT industry.

According to the Minister, the drive to achieving that inclusiveness is what necessitated the training of these young girls.

Sixty of the beneficiaries, most of whom are between the ages of Eleven and Sixteen were presented with awards including a certificate of participation and a Hewlett-Packard laptop each, while the first Ten received MTN Turbonets with a one-year subscription. Some others received cheques and plaques for their performances.

The next training session is expected to be held in the Western Region in the coming days.
