The newly constituted Board is chaired by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. In his opening remarks, Justice Armah Tetteh congratulated the Board Members on behalf of the President of the Republic. He reaffirmed the President’s confidence in their capabilities and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, dedication, and professionalism. He emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the administration of public funds, especially in a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.

Delivering his inaugural address as Board Chair, Hon. Samuel Nartey George outlined a bold and transformative vision for GIFEC. He revealed that work is already underway on a new Legislative Instrument (LI) to restructure the mandate of GIFEC into a Digital Economy Fund.
This reform, he noted, is aimed at positioning the Fund as a key driver of Ghana’s digital economy and innovation ecosystem.
According to the Minister, the restructured Fund will play a central role in implementing the government’s ambitious 1 Million Coders initiative, which seeks to train a million young Ghanaians in coding and digital skills to meet the demands of the global digital workforce. He highlighted that GIFEC’s network of Community Information Centres (CICs) across the country will serve as training hubs under the programme, helping to bridge the digital skills gap and empower underserved communities.
As part of the new policy direction, the Minister disclosed plans to increase the contribution rate to the Fund from 1% to 2%, thereby boosting its financial strength and enabling it to scale up impactful interventions in underserved areas. He further tasked the new Board to fast-track the process of acquiring a new and modern office complex for GIFEC to reflect its growing stature and responsibilities.

In addition, Hon. Nartey George proposed the organisation of a general retreat for all Board Members of Agencies under the Ministry to foster alignment, strategic coordination, and collaborative planning in the implementation of government digital initiatives.
