The Parliamentary Select Committee on Information and Communications, led by its Chairman, Hon. Bandim Lamangin Abed-Nego (MP for Bunkpurugu) paid a working visit to the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
During the visit, the Administrator of GIFEC, Mr. Tanko Rashid-Computer, made a detailed presentation on the flagship Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project (GRT&DIP), which is transforming connectivity in underserved and unserved communities across Ghana.
The Deputy Administrator, Hon. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, also briefed the Committee on the new Legislative Instrument (LI) for GIFEC, which among other things proposes an increase in industry contributions from 1% to 2% to strengthen the Fund’s capacity to deliver on its future mandate. The Committee commended GIFEC’s efforts, pledged its support to ensure the completion of the outstanding Rural Telephony sites, and announced plans to embark on a field trip to selected Rural Telephony sites to observe the impact of the project at first-hand.
