GIFEC Supports ICT Education in the Sekyere South District

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), in collaboration with the Chief of Staff has donated computers and accessories to nine (9) basic schools at Wiamoase in the Sekyere South District in the Ashanti Region.

The donation forms part of GIFEC’s Schools Connectivity Project, which aims seeks to facilitate the teaching and learning of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in educational institutions in Ghana.

In all, One Hundred (100) Computers and UPS, and four printers worth Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 500,000) were deployed to nine schools, comprising both public and private schools. The schools include; Wiamoase Presbyterian JHS, Wiamoase Methodist JHS, Salvation Army JHS, SDA JHS, Grace and Glory Basic School and Deen Islamic Primary and JHS.

The rest are Kokoeasua DA Primary and JHS, Mpaebi Basic School and Saviour Primary and JHS.

Donating the items to beneficiaries, Madam Frema Osei Opare said the items were meant to improve ICT education in the schools and help them stand a better chance in the job market in future.

Mr. Abraham Kofi Asante, Administrator of GIFEC, on his part encouraged the pupils and authorities of the schools to take advantage of the items to improve teaching and learning. He added that “GIFEC has trained over 6,000 school children in coding, to be creative and capable of providing innovative solutions to everyday problems in the society”.

The District Chief Executive of the Sekyere South District, Madam Katherine Reckling, urged parents to monitor how their children spent their time and give them the encouragement to aim higher in life.
