The President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has reiterated the need for everyone in the formal and informal sector to embrace Information Communication Technology (ICT) in order to fit into the changing needs of the world. He made this known on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, when he commissioned the Akyem Wenchi Educational Circuit Communication Information Centre at Soabe in Denkyemboso district in the Eastern Region, the very first ICT project he is commissioning as President of the Republic.
The Community Information Centre is an initiative from a Statesman, Professor S. K. B Asante who is a native of the community. The Centre has four ICT laboratory rooms and Server room.
The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) an agency of the Ministry of Communications with the sole aim of helping in digital transformation in the underserved and unserved communities has equipped the Centre with internet connectivity. The Prof. & Mrs. S.K.B. Asante Educational Trust Fund, supported the Centre with forty desktop computers, four laptops, four projectors, and ten air – conditioners.
His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo – Addo was accompanied by the Minister of Communications Hon. Mrs. Ursula Owusu–Ekufful, the Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour, the Administrator/Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Hon. A. Kofi Asante, Mr. Frances Asenso Boakye, Deputy Chief of staff, Professor S. K. B. Asante a statesman and other dignitaries who helped to graced the occasion.
Nana Daasebre Dr. Asumadu Appiah II, Paramount Chief of Oseiwuo Traditional Area who was the Chairman of the inauguration ceremony in his open statement expressed his gratitude to his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo – Addo. He however lamented the need for government to assist in some projects in the community.
These include, the deplorable nature of roads in the communities, he stressed on the need for his Excellency to consider the construction of the roads in Soabe and its adjoining communities, he said with the deplorable nature of the road farmers in the community find it difficult to transport food stuffs to towns and the city to sell.
He touched on the galamsey menace in the communities and said it is imperative that the government take a critical look at galamsey menace as it has caused so much damage to the water bodies and farm lands in the community.
He also stressed on the need for his Excellency to help in building school infrastructure, the need to make Teacher remuneration attractive as this will attract teachers to serve in the community. He also requested for set up of a Teacher Training College in the community.
His Excellency in his statement said his government will work hard to serve Ghanaians. He reaffirmed that his government will do all that it can to fulfill the promises made to Ghanaians. He assured the chief and people that he will follow up on all request from Daasebre Dr. Asumadu Appiah II and address those that need urgent attention.
President Akufo-Addo advised the youth of Soabe to take advantage of the opportunities that will be afforded to them by the facility and also adapt a good maintance culture of the facility.
The Minister of Communications. Hon. Mrs. Ursula Owusu – Ekufful said it is imperative that the community members take advantage of the Centre. “the Centre can be use for business, student research, students assignment and many more” and advised that with implementation of the government E-service project the community members who may be applying for jobs can do so with the help of the internet connectivity in the Centre, those applying for passport, and drivers license can also take advantage of the Center. She expressed her gratitude to the Administrator of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic communications (GIFEC) for his quick directive ensuring that the Centre was provided with internet connectivity.
Professor S. K. B. Asante together with the Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour expressed their gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa – Akuffo Addo and his entourage for gracing the ceremony.
